JOE’S STORY:
Take Joe for example; Joe lives in Sydney and had aspirations to become an electrician. Soon after he graduated from high school, Joe undertook full-time study at a local TAFE institution, like many other students. He starts attending classes, in hopes of attaining a ‘UEE30811 – Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician.’
Although committed to becoming an electrician and continuing working for an employer during his apprenticeship, Joe found the theory side of his formal training at TAFE boring and began missing class. Once he bagan to fall behind he lost momentum and stopped attending class altogether.
Seven years later, Joe found himself excelling at work and was one of the best performing employees at work. However, Joe was still unqualified, hence unlicensed, therefore, was earning less than other employees who were qualified and licensed!
Wanting to advance in his career and utlise his skills and knowledge that he gained through past experience, Joe knew he needed to obtain a nationally recognized qualification through Electrical Trades College.
This is the chapter where we, at the ELECTRICAL TRADES COLLEGE entered Joe’s story and made a difference. You see, our name states what our business is about. We are a small, niche RTO for electrical trades industry training and are giving recognition to men and women working in the electrotechnology industry.
Electrotechnology is a growing industry with a lot of different skills and specialisations emerging in the workforce. There is a high demand for skilled, qualified well-trained professionals with foundation knowledge and skills that lead to fully recognised licensing. Evidently, we specialise in helping people with circumstances which mirror Joe’s and hence help such people out.
Joe joined the pioneering batch, at the Electrical Trades College in order to fully attain his ‘UEE30811 – Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician’ so that he would enjoy the benefits of working in his workplace. He has since graduated with his qualification and is happily working in the electrical industry with no restrictions at all.
AVOID THE TROUBLE – AVOID THE FINES:

Not only is trying to work without a license inconvenient for you, but it is also illegal in NSW. You can easily avoid hefty fines, (such as the one in the article above) by completing your license with us at the ETC.
An electrical license is only attained through adaequate work performance captured at ones workplace and study, due to its many components which must be thoroughly learnt before being safely practised. Unlicensed workers, no matter how experienced, may have a gap in their understanding of electrical trades – for example in the specialisation of wiring.
Incorrect wiring may seem like a very small mistake, yet can have a catastrophic impact on people, businesses and of course, in long term, your credibility. Just a few of the effects are inclusive of:
– Electrical Fires
– Short-Circuiting
– Power Surges – Dropouts, ( impacting electrical goods and appliances )
– Risk to business and perhaps profitability
– Prone to higher energy consumptions
– Impact on productivity performance
All of these reasons, when combined, sum up to a possible worst-case scenario. To avoid this costly and disastrous situation, the NSW laws have been crafted so that all workers are authorised and licensed, whilst all work is done precisely and no problems relative to installation are faced either.
Remember, it is an offence to undertake electrical wiring work without a
licence or certificate. You can be fined $22,000 as an individual or $110,000 as
a company for doing unlicensed electrical work. – Fair Trading NSW

The article mentions:
” An unlicensed syndicate behind hazardous electrical work across Sydney may be linked to a man’s death and a separate house fire, police have warned.
St George Police Area Command officers launched investigations into both incidents which occurred last year, and detectives have now released the images of two men who may be able to assist with their inquiries.
The syndicate has been offering homeowners across Sydney cheap wiring and unmetered access to the power grid, police said.
Police believe the work is linked to the electrocution of a 24-year-old tradesman in Sydney’s south on February 21, 2017.
Emergency services were called to a house on Short Street, Carlton, about 3 pm that day following reports a tradesman had been electrocuted.”

This article outlines the following facts:
1. “Installation problems include incorrect polarity, no earthing, substandard insulation, exposed connections, overloading of circuits, screws and nails piercing electrical conductors and electrical outlets in hazardous areas,” Mr Cafe said.
2. “Any liability arising from electrical work comes under close scrutiny from insurers and the legal system in the case of fires and fatalities.
3. “It would be foolish and uneconomical for a licensed registered and insured contractor to accept responsibility for someone’s work who isn’t qualified and insured.
4. “Nobody is being done favour getting a cheap electrical job done by someone who does not have the relevant qualifications and insurance.”
5. A spokesperson for NSW Fair Trading said consumers should always ensure they engage a licensed electrician for all electrical work, every time.
6. “Using an unlicensed electrician means that there is a greater chance that the electrical work will not be safe or compliant and ultimately will mean there is a greater cost placed onto the consumer,” the spokesperson said.
7. Remember, it is an offence to undertake electrical wiring work without a licence or certificate. You can be fined $22,000 as an individual or $110,000 as a company for doing unlicensed electrical work.
